IPL brand value is more than $10 Billion

Indian Premier League (IPL) was launched in the year 2008. The league has managed to grab fans not only in India but also world in a short period of time. According to Brand Finance, a brand valuation company, Indian Premier League IPL brand value was $10.9 Billion in December 2022.

The report stated that IPL brand value which was $4.7 Billion in 2021 nearly doubled to $8.4 Billion in 2022. It also mentioned that the sudden upsurge in IPL brand value was caused by new media rights and addition of two teams. The digital media rights for IPL were at Rs.20,500 crore while TV rights were at Rs. 23,575 crores.

The report also mentioned valuation of IPL franchises. Mumbai Indians secured the top spot with brand value of around $83 Million while Lucknow Super Giants which is the new entrant to the league had brand value of $31.8Million. According to the report, Mumbai Indians has managed to grow 99% in brand value every year since 2009.

The report which in December 2022, also mentioned that digital consumption of the league has been a major factor in increasing its brand value especially after 2020. Also, one of the major reason behind IPL brand value doubling is the role franchises have played in fan engagement for the league. In this article let’s take a look at Tata IPL franchises brand value according to report by Brand Finance, brand valuation consultant company. Let’s start with five time champions Mumbai Indians.

MI Brand Value

Mumbai Indians(MI) brand value as of December 2022 was $83 million, making it the most valuable franchise of the Tata IPL. Mumbai Indians is also one of the most followed Tata IPL franchise across social media platforms. As of 2023, Mumbai Indians has partnerships with 25 brands. Some of them include Slice, DHL, Acko, Relaince Retail, Reliance Jio. Among the new entrants are IDFC First Bank and Mahindra, automobile giant.

KKR Brand Value

Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) had won the title in 2012 and 2014. The Shah Rukh Khan owned franchise has brand value of $76.8 million. The franchise’s home ground Eden Gardens has capacity of 1,00,000 spectators making it the second biggest stadium in the country. As of 2023, MyFab11 is the principal sponsor of KKR, while other partners include Acko, Money9, Lux cozi.

CSK Brand Value

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are 4 time champions of the league winning in 2010,2011,2018 and 2021. CSK has massive following all over the world courtesy MS Dhoni. The Chennai based franchise has brand value of $73.6 Million making it the third highest franchise with respect to brand value. CSK’s sponsors include TVS Eurogrip, India Cements, Relaince Jio, Gulf.

RCB Brand Value

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has one of the biggest fan following in the world. Virat Kohli, start Indian cricketer plays for the RCB leading to huge increase in RCB matches viewership. RCB brand value is $68 Million. The Bangalore based franchise stands fourth in the list of Tata IPL franchises brand value. RCB’s sponsors include Qatar Airways, DP World, Exide, KEI Industries.

DC Brand Value

In 2018 Delhi Daredevils was rebranded as Delhi Capitals. While Delhi Capitals are yet to win the league, they are winning off the pitch with $62.4 Million brand value. Some of the sponsors as of 2023 include JSW, DP World, Greenpanel, Harman.

RR Brand Value

Rajasthan Royals(RR) were the first champions of the league, winning it in the year 2008. They are sixth in the list with a brand value of $61.3 Million. To name a few Luminous Power, BKT, Dollar Industries, SBI Life are their sponsors.

SRH Brand Value

Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) won the league in 2016. The Hyderabad based franchise stands seventh in the list with a brand value of $48.8 Million. Kent Mineral RO, Cars 24, BKT, Reliance Jio are some of it’s sponsors.

GT Brand Value

Gujarat Titans is one of the two new entrants to the league. It won the league in its debut season in 2022. The brand value of Gujarat Titans is $47.4 Million. Their sponsors include Ather Energy, Astral Pipes, Acko, Equitas Bank.

PBKS Brand Value

Punjab Kings(PBKS), initially known as Kings XI Punjab(KXIP) underwent rebranding in 2021. The Preity Zinta owned franchise has brand value of $45 Million. EBIX Cash, Lotus Herbals, boat, Body Care are some it’s sponsors.

LSG Brand Value

Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) was new entrant to Tata IPL in 2022. The brand value of LSG is $31.8 Million. Its sponsors include Greenply Industries, Too Yum, Shyam Steel Group, Astral Bond Tite.
